Once you finish this course, you will:

Explain the drug use and possession regulations outlined in 49 CFR Part 382 and Section 392.4, including the prohibitions on using or being under the influence of controlled substances while operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), also recognize the exceptions for valid prescriptions and properly documented cargo shipments.

Identify the potential consequences of violating drug use regulations, including citations, 24-hour out-of-service orders, financial losses, and risks to their commercial driver’s license and career. Additionally, learners will demonstrate an understanding of how to ensure safe driving practices by avoiding substances that could impair their ability to operate a CMV safely, including medical or recreational marijuana, even if legal under state law.
