At the end of this course, you will:

  • Apply the three specific following-distance techniques (seconds rule, time to collision, and space cushioning) to prevent rear-end collisions in varying speeds, weights, and weather conditions.

  • Manipulate lane positioning, mirror scanning, and speed to eliminate blind-spot ("no-zone") crashes with passenger vehicles, cyclists, and other trucks, including executing a correct lane-change decision tree.

  • Identify the first three physiological signs of micro-sleep and fatigue, and correctly implement FMCSA-compliant fatigue management steps (including the 20-minute power nap) before a crash occurs.

  • Predict high-risk scenarios (mountain downgrades, icy bridges, urban intersections, brake fade) using emergency decision protocols, including runaway truck ramp use, skid recovery, and weather shutdown rules.
